I've loved animals from the day I was born, and I've never had a day in my life when I haven't had a pet. Must people love animals and wildlife like me, but then there are some evil heartless people out there who want to badly injure or kill some animals. I've heard some horrific injuries and deaths that animals have, and it always makes my blood boil when I hear what some horses go through. Some don't get fed, others are abandoned, their hooves never get seen to, they have horrible skin, they get tied up outside in all types of weather etc. etc. What makes me even more angry is horse racing. I love horses, their beautiful and I've always wanted a white one. But I don't agree with horse racing because I don't think the horses really enjoy racing just so people can gamble and go for 'a fun day out'. It's okay if it's your own horse I guess, but I hate horse racing, it's not horse riding and I don't think they enjoy it.

    Sharks.

Why kill and endager sharks because people are 'scared'?

About 100 million sharks are killed a year. 100 million lives lost and wasted. 100 million powerful, unique, amazing creatures.

I don't want to offend anyone with what I'm about to say and I'm not blaming anyone:

China has shark fin soup and they catch and kill the shark, cut of the fin and dump the corpse in the water-what a waste! I am a firm believer that animals should NEVER be watsed. Also-esspecially if they are endangered they should be bred and not taken out of the wild.

There must SOMETHING to prevent this exctinction, but it may be difficult considering it is mostly other countries. If someone does find a campaign or something, please let me know.

The fact that Giant African Snails are still being sold in Brixton Market, London, makes me feel sick. I've tried to raise this problem with several people i know, but always get the same reply of 'their just Snails'. The conditions that they are kept in are discusting, the Snails piled up in baskets, among the dead, sick, covered in mud and poo, with no food or water.

If the sales people are going to sell them at Brixton, then couldn't they atleast keep them in better conditions? They might 'just be Snails' but they still have feelings like all other animals.

I have horses and sitting here right now knowing that they are being slaughtered around the world for human consumption brings me to tears. Each and every horse has its own personality and strange little quirks. I Mexico and Canada they have been shot and stabbed to death! Nothing deserves that. They rescieve no food or water on their journeys to their death where they are crammed into hot crowded trailers. Many are dead upon reaching their destination. I cant even conceive how someone could do that to any animal. It really hits home to look out my window and see my horse Dolly and know that horses just like her die every day for no reason. It breaks my heart to think that right now she could be where they are. Feeling the same emotions, the fear the pain and not knowing what will happen to them. They cant save themselves and the US goverment is failing them. THey are forfeiting their lives for the econemy. Ask yourself, how much is your life worth?

I am still very concerned about fox hunting and people who shoot wildlife, birds for example. It's barbaric and completely unnecessary. Why is this still happening? why are humans who do this have no concious? and when are serious laws going to be implemented so that people are actually prosecuted for doing such horrific things rather than it being a sport like it's some ordinary casual thing to do when in actual fact it's quite the opposite.. If Animals are destroying crops or being pests then they can be dealt with in other ways and not be dealt by with death. Humans commit crimes and are pests and what is there punishment? just being sent to prison or even community service so why should animals be killed?.

Another thing which is significant is what is to be done to those who mistreat or kill an animal? a lousy fine again? what message is that sending out?. The public still needs to be educated on such matters and a greater fine should be charged to those who mistreat or kill an animal as well as them being sent to prison. Not until this happens, we can't be a nation which protects animals.

Moreover, the hunt for seals and whale meat completely repulses me. What barbarian would eat them?. This needs to be destroyed and more and more people need to be aware of this. This is real life horror film stuff going on, people tend to forget about these as it's creatures like these which make the natural world the way it is.

i think there are so many things that need to be stopped and prevented like hunting/shooting for fun! farmers that shoot foxes because they are 'pests' poeple putting poison in mole holes coz its 'ruining there lawn' ... and also pet mistreatment, i have two rescue dogs + cats who are absolutley wonderful and i love them so much but when we got them and i found out what had happened to them i couldnt believe how someone could do it, my youngest dog dennis was found in the street and 10 weeks old where he had been chucked out after the previous owners had docked his tail themselves!!! he now gets freaked out and cowars if a stranger goes to stroke him near the back end,and my other dog alfie came over from ireland where apparently if they are not rehomed in a week they are put down i think this is so wrong and something needs 2 be done to stop so much cruelty towards any animal!

The grand national is a hugely successfull event.
However, the recent national [ Yesterday] saw 2 horses die because they fell at fences. many more have tragically been killed in the past grand nationals and im sure many more will in the future. i find this unfair. the horses participating get lots of care and attention before the race but during the race its just the horse and the jockey. i dont think anything drastic needs to be done, but because in total there are 40 horses participating i think the number should be reduced as this will seriously minimise chances of injury or death. if that is not possible i think the grand national should be split into different races [ 40 horses, 4 races, 10 in each race]this will then result in 4 winners in which a final race could decide the overall winner. this is not stopping the grand national simply splitting it. if enforced, there should be little or no injury and certainly no deaths. this supports the horses welfare at the same time as keeping the magic of the grand national alive.

I am quite concerned about the number of dogs being stolen. I think dog owners need to be warned about the cruel people who steal dogs for reward money or for dog fighting. I see many dogs left in cars (which could kill them anyway) or tied up outside shops. Some dog owners don't realise that there are horrid people who would take someones dog without a second thorght!
Please help to raise awairness about this!

Something else that concerns me is when people adopt a pet without beforehand doing the research on how to look after it. But something else that's a similar issue is when pet owners don't really like animals much, and lose interest in their pets.

A childhood friend of mine at some point decided that she wanted to be a clone of me. She started forcing herself to like all the things I liked, and it was pretty creepy. But it didn't get serious until I was given a rabbit for my 8th birthday, and she decided that she needed to get a rabbit because I had one. The difference was, I have always been an animal lover. My parents knew I would never lose interest in the rabbit, and I really loved him. I still think about him every day.

Another difference between us, someday before my birthday I told my parents that I thought I was ready for a pet of some sort. I felt like asking for a pet was a really big deal, and thought that I'd be lucky to be given a fish that we would keep in the fish pond we already had, or something that wouldn't change our lives.

Basically, getting a rabbit was a wonderful thing for me that I hadn't expected or even specifically asked for. But my friend begged her parents for a rabbit for a long time. Her parents eventually caved because she got "ill" and couldn't go to school for a few weeks, then (so I was told, but am not certain) she blackmailed her parents by saying she wasn't going back to school until she got a rabbit.

So what happens after she got her rabbit? She was pleased, but was only doing it because I was a rabbit owner and she got bored soon. Needless to say the rabbit didn't live long, and my friend didn't give it much attention after she'd lost interest. At school, whenever I tried to strike up a conversation about my own rabbit, or ask how her one was, she often acted disgusted that I still loved my rabbit! Admittedly, I did talk about my rabbit a lot, but she had completely lost interest. I remember overhearing her mum complaining to my mum about how she had to do everything for the rabbit from then on.

I was never told why the rabbit died (he wasn't old) but it wouldn't surprise me if it was something he should have been vaccinated against. It was just terrible to hear that a rabbit had been neglected because the owner lost interest. This kind of neglect can lead to abandoning the pet completely.

I did hear of one more neglected rabbit. My neighbour had adopted a rabbit from my real best friend (her family bred rabbits and really cared about them). Then one day my best friend told me she'd gone to visit the neighbour one day, and the rabbit was stuck in a dirty hutch and run out of edible food and clean water. Two weeks later the rabbit died. It was nearly 3 months old.

Abandoning and abuse its not right! It is a heartless horrible and they only have the one life and the owner ruins it for them. They are put in re homing shelters but some never get a good home.
some acts of abuse and animal harm are too brutal that it results in death, all because of the selfish and cowardly behaviour of its owner. ITS JUST NOT FAIR ON THE ANIMAL, A PAINFUL DEATH BECAUSE OF THE OWNER SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE!!

When I was in school, my animal loving friends rejected me the moment they found out about me being vegetarian. I have NEVER preached to anyone and it DOESN'T bother me that people eat meat, but one day they found out about me and got really angry with me. Maybe they were just feeling defensive, as they too are animal lovers. The false assumptions upset me though. They said I'd made a pointless decision because they kill the animal anyway, and that I might not get the exact amount of protein in my diet. Oh, and once someone else said to me, "you're an omnivore, deal with it."

I couldn't believe how stupid they thought I was! They acted like I thought I would save the world alone or something, and apparently someone thought I didn't know what an omnivore was. What's worse was that they immediately attempted to start an argument while I didn't have any issues with their lifestyle choices. They may have not understood my decision, and I'm not going to force them to do so. You can't force someone into understanding something, after all. It was the fact that they didn't accept it and were so quick to judge me that upset me, especially as I thought they knew me quite well as a person and would realize that I'm not like that.

That's not the only time I've known of anti-vegetarianism. You see a lot of it on TV, in magazines and on the internet. I realize that vegetarianism isn't the right lifestyle choice for everyone, and that we all have our own reasons on making our decisions. i also realize that the preachy stereotype didn't just come out of nowhere, and that there are a few people from both sides of the argument that are very aggressive and unaccepting of peoples' choices. I find it very discriminating though when people assume we're all like that. It probably makes animals look bad too.

    PETA NEEDS YOU!!
Come participate in a fun, one-of-a-kind demonstration on Saturday, 3 October, to urge Selfridges to stop selling foie gras
To create foie gras - French for "fatty
liver" - up to 2 kgs of a mixture of grain, maize and fat is pumped into
the stomachs of ducks and geese through a pipe two or three times a day for
three weeks. As the birds' livers become diseased and expand to up to 10 times
their normal size, the animals become sick, and many are unable to move. The
pipes sometimes puncture the birds' throats, which may cause them to bleed to
    death.
Foie gras production is banned in the UK and more
than a dozen other countries. More than 60 per cent of Britons believe that foie
gras sales should also be banned. Not one supermarket will sell foie gras in
the UK. Foie gras has also been pulled from the shelves of House of Fraser,
Prince Charles has banned it from Royal menus and the Pope has denounced it as
    cruel.
We'd like to make this demonstration as
large and noticeable as possible. Won't you please join?
The demonstration will take place outside Selfridges at 400 Oxford Street at 11 am and last for 30 minutes. However, we will meet in a location close to (but not in front of) Selfridges at 9:45 am sharp to talk through the event.
Our goal is to get 100 compassionate people out for this eye-catching demonstration. Each participant will be given a duck mask to represent the ducks and geese who are used to make the fois gras sold at Selfridges. Some people will also hold signs, while others will distribute leaflets.
It's important that you please RSVP writing to RoseG@peta.org.uk with "Birdie" in the subject line of your e-mail. The meeting location, dress code, lyrics of the chant, instructions on the dance and other fun details will be sent (to people who RSVP) closer to the date of the demonstration.

fsnowflake, if you're still watching this blog I never said I ate at McDonalds. I'm said they seemed to be one of the few choices. They're overpriced and disgusting anyway, so they're not really.
As for that website, (ignoring the fact that it's PETA anyway) it's hard to tell if it's talking about the way they work in America or ALL branches of McDonalds. England is generally more aware of the issue of animal welfare than America and so English beef and chickens may well be reared differently.

Mags53 - With charities, you have to ask for your money to be put into a specific area, if you do not, then it will be put into the 'central coffers'. The charity is legally obliged to put the money to exactly where you ask it to go to.

This is for all those people who believe you can be pro-animal welfare and not be a vegan. If you truly care about the welfare of animals you can't possibly think it's okay to put bits of their flesh in your mouth. Sit back and campaign about the poor doggies who are smacked by their owners as you indulge in your steaks. Who gets to choose which animals are the ones you care about and which aren't? What if cows are the ones you decide to protect. Stop them from being artificially impregnated torn away from their offspring and prodded to slaughter so you can gorge on their tender flesh. Heres to these people. If you could fry your dog up for dinner then good for you. If you'd have a problem with that, maybe you better start seriously thinking about no longer supporting the meat and dairy market.

instead there seems to be a bit of competion about who is a better person by being a vegan or vegitarian.
human kind has been eating mean since the dawn of time and will probably be eating it to the end of time, insulting ppl and ranting about it will not change that. but the support of rspca freedom foods and better education will make a difference to the care and treatment of animals. i myself choose to eat quorn products, but on occassion i do eat chicken, i buy rspca approved or organic and i do no see how that makes my love for animals any less.

Yes, I DO think that all these epidemics are natures way of telling man not to mess around with it! But for now, I am not worried about swine flu. I believe that pigs don't even get it, so the Egyptians killing all their pigs is a bit stupid and ill thought out really, and probably they are only killing the pigs because the epidemic has been labelled "swine flu". • Sue May 12, 2009 at 11:46 a.m.

This vexed subject again!! Well, I was raised as a carnivore, but over the years, I have gradually reduced my intake of meat. I now rarely buy beef, lamb or pork, other than on the VERY odd occasion and this will be if I am having people over for a meal. I confess that I do still eat fish, so long as it is already dead! What I mean is that I won't buy live fish, such as mussels, crabs or lobster. I also still eat chicken, but again, my consumption of this meat has decreased, and continues to decrease as time goes by. The thing is though that I do not like quorn (yes, I have tried it), and although I like vegetables, a busy lifestyle means that I rarely have the time to cook them, other than potatoes, which I can put in the microwave for a few minutes and eat with a nob of butter. If I buy vegetables they usually go off before I have got round to preparing them, so not being a person who likes to be wasteful, I only buy them when I know they are definitely going to get eaten. In summer I eat a lot of salad, but I don't eat beans or pulses. Rice and pasta I do like, and one of my favourite meals these days is Spaghetti Carbonara which in fact, I am preparing on Saturday night when my best friend comes over for a meal. I don't take any supplements and being a person who won't take tablets of any kind, even painkillers, I am never likely to. Maybe I will never completely stop eating meat, but the amount I do consume has greatly decreased and continues to decrease. I love the taste of meat and I have to say that my decrease in consumption is purely about animal welfare, because when I am tempted to pick up that tray of lamb chops, I DO think about the lamb that was reared and died for them, and my conscience won't let me put them into my basket. Ten years ago, I would never have thought that my consumption of meat would diminish this far, and I would never have believed that I could do without it, but that is what time does. I think that whether you eat meat or not and whether you might be persuaded to eat less is a matter for every individual, and is not something which the weight of other people's opinions can force on you. It was MY moral conscience which gradually persuaded me to eat less meat, not someone else's, and I think people will come to their own decisions in their own time. It is good and interesting to see a debate on the subject though.

Sasha- I would have to agree on your "meat eating methods", I think it is very rare for a person to only eat what they need, instead they overindulge. I think if people were to follow your idea, then there would be a little less meat being farmed. I never understand why people say "its healthy to eat meat", then gorge themselves on mcdonalds burgers and kebabs.
I think it would be a good idea to write a letter (never done it myself). I do get annoyed when I go abroad and they have no vegetarian alternatives, I do understand though that other countries have different cultures so that is probably why, but I definatly think that meat alternatives are a growing demand and "high up people" need to realise this and start providing.

I try to eat as little meat as possible because it upsets my stomach to eat a great deal and I feel it's only necessary to eat the amount that I need to provide my body with the sufficient amount of nutrients and not to over-indulge.
I actually have not sent the government a letter about meat supplement foods but thats a great idea.
I'll be visiting my countries capital next month so it would be amazing to drop the letter off specifically to them. Thanks for the idea.

Vegan chick- I think Sasha is making some valid points, the difference is she is not forcing her beliefs onto everyone else. I am a vegetarian and love animals, and I understand that Sasha loves animals but she choses to eat meat, and she obviously cares about what sort of meat she eats (which is what the rspca is aiming for), and she seems quite clued up on the topic, backing up her opinions with sensible facts. I'm sure that the majority of animal lovers who work for the RSPCA also eat meat, they also understand that other people like to eat meat which is why they hold campaigns to create better welfare standards for animals.

To Sasha - Have you ever thought about writing to your government explaining your concerns and ideas for meat substitute type food? I know it prob wouldn't make much difference but it would be helpful for them to understand that demand for vegie food is on the rise! Why do you chose to eat as little meat as possible? Is it because of food intollerances?
Yes eggs are a great source of certain nutrients. I agree, buying locally would solve a lot of problems, and everntually one day I hope that will happen, free range eggs and meat all the way...

    VeganxChick
I have criticised, without insulting, because you feel strongly about your position and you fail to provide actual reasons for why you feel veganism is necessary or how it would save all the animals. I did not become angered nor attack you until you insisted on denouncing my love for animals with your comments about forums involving slaughter houses and animal testing. Sorry if you feel threatened or whatever the problem is, and feel for some reason that it must be because I hate animals that I question you.
As I said before, I have nothing against people, such as yourself being vegan.
I can tell you love animals a great deal and that is why you have chosen to be vegan, I assume. Just drop the forcefulness and constant statements of people not being able to love an animal "and then in the next breath eat it" because with the same amount of passion you have about being vegan and how, whatever your reasoning, it will save all the creatures of the earth, people are going to debate you and backing up your ideas is part of debating, not resorting to insults.

    Anyway,
    To Hannah67
I come from Canada and I certainly hope that the problem can be sorted out, I would deffinately like to try this product.
I eat as little meat as possible, and I accept the use of supplements and because of my many food allergies, I am forced to take them, but taking ones that are unnecessary when I am able to get the nutrients from a solid food item or drink for that matter, is just not the something I wish to do.
I feel strongly about the use of eggs, I think its a great alternative to meat for protein and nutrients. I have stated my opinion on them on the Chicken Challenge portion of the blogging topics.
How do you feel about them?
    Thanks.

Whats wrong with you? On many posts you criticise me for god knows what! You truely do have a sad little life. I am doing a good thing by being vegan but yet all you can do is criticize.

You should be on a forum which promotes unnecessary animal suffering on factory farms. Much more your thing, you can chat to other 'like minded' people who get great pleasure out of animals suffering!

Sasha - What country do you come from? It seems strange that Quorn is not identified as "safe", it sounds like they are working on it though. I imagine that all countries have to test and test again all new food stuffs that are brought into the country in question.
I agree, supplements like protein etc probably are pointless to a lot of people, I certainly wouldn't be taking them. But there are probably people that depend on things like this, whether its by choice or not. I try to get all my nutrients from vegetables and I get my protein from Quorn (v high in protein). Though I do take cod liver oil. (because I don't eat fish - but i hate the taste of fish anyway!). I don't get the impression that you "hate vegetarians", it sounds to me like you might be fed up with people pressuring you by saying "if you love animals you shouldn't be eating meat". This must be very frustrating for you, and to those people who say things like that are quite misinformed on the subject, thinking that the easiest way to animal welfare is to stop eating meat all together. Also, what do you feel about the use of eggs?

I just looked it up and Quorn is actually not available/sold in my country. It says that the food authorities have a problem identifying it as a safe food resource. =S
Which is why I have probably never heard of it before... not something that we have here.
That's rubbish considering many other countries have it and do not seem to have a problem.
    Rediculous...

Thank you Hannah, I'll have to look into Quorn and what it consists of.
The silly supplements I was referring to was those pills/powders that I see a lot of people take, for protein and nutrients lacking in their diets. I find them unnecessary. That is why I feel strongly about the use of eggs.
And sorry if I do give people the impression that I dislike vegetarians or vegans and think its stupid. I do not, I have many friends of my own who are vegetarian. The basis of my argument is not to force these opinions/life style choices on others.
    Anyways, thank you.

Sasha - I do believe that you can love animals and eat meat. It is a shame you are allergic to soya. I don't eat meat but eat things like Quorn which is full of microprotein, and arguably healthier than meat, and they are not silly supplements either. Quorn is a type of fungai. yum. I don't believe that this contains soy but I could be mistaken. Most of my friends and family who do eat meat think that Quorn products are delicious.
Also many types of meat products contain supplements and "unnatural forms of nourishment".
It is people's own choice whether they want to eat meat, but that meat should be "humanely" killed etc. (I actually disagree with the words "humane meat").

another thought, whilst l`m stuck in and bored.
Just maybe in an ideal world no one would be cruel to animals, or eat them, but by nature we are the cruellest of species, more than other animals who kill just for food, generally.
But you cant say that all people who eat meat dont care for animals, even if its only pets and wild animals thats good.
David Attenborough and others have done so much for raising awareness about the wonder of animals, conservation, preservation, probably helped saved animals that would now be extinct,
yet l have a feeling that he, probably one of the most respected, admired, and envied men in the uk, does eat meat, yet obviously cares deeply about animals and the envoirament.

Just like to add that quorn mince and quorn chicken pieces can be very tasty, not bland at all. Cook tomatoes, onions, garlick, herbs, and veg stock in a pan for 30min, add quorn mince, or quorn chicken pieces, lomin more, then you can add rice for risotto, spagetti for bolognese, put in dish with mash on top for shepherds pie, or add veg fruit curry powder, mince and stock for a dinner, or chicken with sauce for dinner, l dont think many people would know it wasnt meat, the trainee chefs didnt on ramseys prog, wont even talk about ramsey. At present quorn mince is on offer 1pound a bag, will make 2-3 meals for 2-3people, veg pizza sburys good, salads, loads, of tasty food altenatives.

There is so much cruelty throughout the world towards animals, its difficult for the people like rspca, peta, wwf, and the many others on where to start. l love the Gorilla`s and was shocked and upset to see a doc on tv about whole families being shot for bush meat, babes being macheted or taken to sold for pets, vile.
This towards an endangered and most intelligent of species, our nearest cousin.
Bulls treat with the utmost and barbaric cruelty in spain, the fur trade in china, right down to me seeing more and more children, and young people, some older ones, attempting to kick pigeons, with aggression and malice, a symptom of our sick aggressive society, which unfortunately seems to be getting worse rather than better. Despite that animal laws on welfare in the uk and eec are improving with awareness of cruelty,
How can Spain, an eec country get away with its barbaric cruelty to bulls, why cant the eec ban all import of furs when it opposes the cruelty to the animals. If people stopped eating meat the farm animals would not become extinct, do people recall the cow disease news stories, horrendous, they would just be kept in smaller numbers on city farms and simular, or farmers might keep some for showing, some animals can even be kept as pets for those with land, big gardens, lucky so and so`s, chicken, pigs, goats, sheep, already are Good news, there will not be a badger cull in England, bad news for the badgers in Wales, that the rspca, and other animal charities shelters do not put animals to sleep as easily or as quickly anymore keeping them for months and years.
Many more people are only buying free range eggs, many zoos are not the cramped iron bar c ages of the past, many of their animals have large enclosers with company, mates, do breed and rear young, often of endangered species, so that they can be returned to the wild.
Some native species, returned to the uk,. Much good work done by the rspca, peta, wwf, others and the people that support them, much still t o do takes time to educate and make aware.
My own little news, is that l love my cat, but not it hunting birds, same for many, tried two collars and 4 bells to help, but recently found there is a sonic sound cat collar that alerts the birds when the cat comes near, its called a Liberator cat collar, supplied by a company in liverpool, hicraft l think, it is expensive about l3pound but lasts a long time.
Hope cat owners will consider and try it, l have, no dead birds so far, touch wood.

I am a vegetarian, and If you go to somewhere like tesco, they have large sections of vegetarian food which is really nice. I don't ever encourage other people to go vegetarian because its out of your choice. But I think that there are a lot of yummy alternatives to meat. Meat can be also "very bland" if not cooked with various ingrediants.

I hate how it's near impossible to buy food that contains meat that's free range/organic. Infact, the only resturant I know of that practices animal welfare is - all of places - McDonalds, and they're only using organic milk and free-range eggs. When I go out to eat I'm limited to lamb, seafood and vegetarian. The former 2 aren't common options and not many places serve appetising vegetarian foods.

I eat meat, mostly not by choice. But a lot of vegans think that you can't love an animal and eat it too, and thats not true. Sue is right, a lot of meat alternatives are quite bland distasteful. I personally hate nuts. Tofu is okay on occassion, but I cannot eat it very often at all due to allergies and its texture is unpleasant.
And to VeganxChick, YOU say you love animals, yet you would rather they go extinct than to have people farm them? What kind of person does that make you..? Extinction is not the answer for the welfare of animals on farms and neither is veganism. Working with the farmers is the best solution and instead of harping at them for the farms that are cruel, come up with solutions that make the animals lives better.

Regarding the Farming and Vegetarian threads, I agree with VeganxChick.
The treatment of animals on farms is a disgrace that we should all want to bring to an end.
Can YOU face knowing that chickens, hens, calves, cows, bulls, piglets, pigs are being slaughtered purely so that you can eat them - and ending their lives typically after 1/10th of their potential age? And that during that brief life they suffer sever trauma? And in the knowledge that you don't have to given that there's now a wide range of perfectly healthy vegetarian options available?

If YOU create the demand then someone somewhere will fill the supply. It's no use hiding behind the "they'd have been slaughtered anyway" or the "they wouldn't exist if people didn't eat them" talk... just an excuse.

'I can't stand nuts, soya or any of the alternatives!'

I find it highly unlikely that you have tried every single meat alternative. Take soya for example, it comes in many forms. Like with most food a sauce is needed otherwise it tastes quite bland. But that doesn't just apply to tofu - it applies to animal body parts which you and many others eat! You do not need to drink milk, that is meant for the calves, not people! Vanilla Alpro Soya is the perfect alternative.

As for saying about animals becoming extinct if you don't eat them. Well you know what, I have seen countless videos and pictures of the misery endured by farm animals and as much as I love them, I would rather they did become extinct, then having to live in constant pain and misery every day of their lives.

I am a meat eater (though I have limited it drastically and eat cheese and eggs rather than meat mostly now)but I do care very deeply about animal welfare issues, and farming issues. You may consider it a contradiction, and I can see that, but I was raised to eat meat, before I was old enough to understand the issues or have a conscience about it, and it is difficult to get out of. Apart from which, I can't stand nuts, soya or any of the alternatives! My meat intake is limited to an occasional bit of chicken now and then. I do eat fish though.
I don't agree with breeding animals to kill them, and I suppose if you follow that to its conclusion, there being no demand for cows, sheep etc, they would just become extinct. People would not want to keep them as pets and risk having them "rustled" by die hard carnivores. I suppose that could eventually extend to pigs and deer, because the wild stocks would be quickly hunted down and driven to extinction anyway. Chickens would never be safe from slaughter if we continued to eat their eggs. So would we stop eating eggs. Dairy cows and sheep would be at risk in the fields from rustlers so would we stop drinking milk? Would we stop wearing wool? Where would it end? Would we end up being a world devoid of any farm animals at all? Would all farms be arable farms only? There is no doubt that whilst I would be happy to see the end of abbatoirs, we would also be seeing the end of a lot of species currently bred purely and simply for their by products. It would certainly change the face of the world as we know it! What I am saying is that yes, we would eradicate cruelty, which would be great, but we would be eradicating a lot more besides. Not that I am saying that would be a bad thing, it is just an observation. You can educate people not to eat meat, and no, we probably don't need it to survive, but without carnivores, the demand for animals disappears, and eventually, like everything we no longer need, so do the animals.

Animals are the one good thing in this not so nice world. And the way they get treated by so many is just horrible. Mother cows keep giving birth and then the calve taken away. She cries for her calves but no one listens! And when her time as a dairy cow is up, she gets sent for slaughter!

Simular story with chickens. They spend up to two years with many other chickens in cramped conditions. They are not able to do what comes naturally to then - like pecking. They get debeaked before spending their harsh existance in a cage. Then like the dairy cow, when their time is up they get sent to the slaughter house!

I would also like to briefly talk about dogs. Now there is this elderly woman who walks past my house everyday with her West Highland Terrier. Sounds nice enough right? wrong. She has the collar around her dogs neck so tightly, thats its a miracle that he can breathe. Another thing, she walks so quickly whilst this little dog is struggling to keep up with her, while having the collar too tight around his neck. I have had a word with this woman, and she acted like she did not know what I was talking about. She just won't listen to reason. People like that are so infuriating.

Another place and another dog - when I was leaving a shopping centre about a year ago, these 'chavs' and their poor little dog went past me. It was quite clear that the dog was elderly. And the girl kept swearing at the dog. The dog was most likely part of thats girls life since she was young. And thats the way a little dog gets treated. Just appalling. I really wanted to take the dog off the girl there and then...

I think that if you have a dog you need to train it when its a puppy and when you take it for a walk you need to keep it on a lead at all times, and if you are in public area and you

I know alot of wild animals are very endagered right now and alot is being done to stop it but think about more animals closer to you? Ceajay-G - we aren't carnovores, we are omnivores - that means that we can survive either entirely as a carnivore or entirely as a herbivore BUT we are better to mix-n-match - a balanced diet. If we eat vegetables, fish and meat in correct proportions we never need to take any supplements because we are getting everything that we need from our diet. The issue with stopping eating animals is that we would need to use much more land to grow enough "herbivore" foods to sustain the population adequately - that would put us in opposition with animals for the land and crops, we would then need to "cull" them to stop them eating our crops and then we'd be killing them for the sake of it - better to eat them. ideally we should all go out and kill or pick what we eat then we'd go back to just another species vying for the food in the world.

I don't think we'll ever, ever see an end to meat eating across the world - so what can we do to make lives better for animals whilst this is the case? I don't agree with animals being exported over miles like with veal calves. But what if we didn't export ours? What if we ate our veal here, like how we eat lamb, for example? And the RSPCA monitor the farms. Because in the name of dairy farming, our male calves are shot at birth and their bodies wasted. I am horrified at the this callousness and waste of a new life. To be born and die for nothing. And - horrible as this may sound...why do we not use the calves for pet food? Our dogs are not vegetarians. Why are we shooting and wasting our male calves? It doesn't seem right. But there's probably some legislation that gets in the way. Like with fishing quotas - fishermen have to throw back and waste tonnes of fish each year because those extra caught are not on the government list! They don't want to throw it away but the have to because the law stipulates it.

Hi shedevil, I agree with you that everyone has a right to eat meat if that is what they choose to do, but I'm not convinced the human body is entirely suited to be carnivorous. I take your point about canine teeth, but we do not have as many as most carnivorous creatures. Also, the human intestines are not entirely suited for the absorption of animal flesh, but if you want to dispute these theories, you could check with the Vegetarian Society. Another very important reason for becoming veggie nowadays is to cut down on the amount of land that's currently used to graze farm animals. If the current amount of land used was instead used for growing soya protein and vegetables, many more people could be fed than are fed at present. Another point? Think of all that methane in the atmosphere from animals' wind - far more deadly in terms of climate change than CO2. I could go on.....

I respect you views on vegetarians and vegans but think everybody has a right to eat meat if they wish. humans are designed to be carniverous that is why we have canines and it is healthy for us to eat meat. I think anybody who wants the world to stop eating meat is not realy thinking about what we are built to do its like saying that all animals have to be vegetarians to make sure species survive. I think that if it is in our nature to eat meat then there is no problem with it.

i agree with shedevil, I've spoken to people who work at these labs and they genuinely seem to bond with their animals, even if they are test subjects. I agree, animal testing for cosmetics is ridiculous, it's just unnecessary, but when it comes to medicine, well i don't think many people would turn down diabetes treatments because rats are used in getting it to the market. Sometimes it's not so easy as to say a sweeping "animal testing is wrong". However, the care and treatment of the test subjects definately must be monitored.

well tbh, i agree with most of you. as in a way yer, animals can be tested on sometimes if not our pets would be suffering with loads of things. i suppose the animals in animal testing labs have to be well looked after if not the test wont work 100%. but why should our make up and our human stuff be tested on animals. why dont people agree to be tested on.

    thanks

Shedevil-point taken. But maybe the time has come when no more can be obtained from cruel animal experiments? And there are other ways- e.g. computer modelling. So lets stop the cruelty towards animals now!

I know i will not be liked for this comment but i belive in some form of animal testing, just think next time you take your beloved pet to the vet how do you think that the treatment needed was found, if it weren't for animal testing our pets could suffer so much from illnesses that have now got a treatment or an injury that could not have been opereated on if not already been tested.
I do not belive in cosmetics testing as this is not for a greater benifit for or animal life like medical testing is.
But only medical testing on animals for animals.

Every kind of cruelty makes me so unhappy, but is worse for animals with often no voice without RSPCA and a few animal lovers they would be forgotten - when I get upset if I read of hear something on TV regarding cruelty, I think of all the people working hard to save them, stop cruelty. Like anything worth fighting for it is a long process, and often tireless and exspensive - animals show their thanks with a lick or kiss, their eyes - but they are loyal, loving faithful.......we need to return it to them, unconditional love they give !!!

This government will never give more power to bodies like the the RSPCA...why? Look how much tax it gains from the greyhound racing industry every year...surely one of the cruellest "sports" around. Dogs bred to run for their lives and breeders pockets. Most of these dogs suffer only a short life, before some inhumane death. A disgraceful way to treat mans best friend.

I agree with sophie. Animal testing is wrong. Whether it's for cosmetics or medical reasons should be banned. it's unfair on the animals as they have never done anything to us. Animals were here on this planet first and they don't test on us so why should we test on us?

If I could save one species of animlas I would save wolves. They are beatiful creatures and yet people still want to kill them and destroy their homes!
Animal testing makes me want to throw up. How could anyone put mascara on a bunny and then put it into the shops? Why don't they test it on themselves! What did the animals do to deserve being tested on?
And it would be great if everyone could be a vegetarian or vegan. Imagine all the animals we could save? The more cows (and other animals) we eat the less they'll be and one day there will be NO animals and NO meat. And then people will probably start eating eachother and bacially the whole world will die out.
Lastly, wearing furs. You are basically wearing a animal. I always ask is this real fur before I buy and some people give me strange looks but I care about animals and I do no want to wear one!

My dream would be to single handedly re-populate all the species of endangered animals. In particular - Tigers.

I have recently adopted a female tiger. She was rescued from a circus in India, and feel very proud to have done so. I cannot express how much I admire the people who work for Born Free. The devotion to thier jobs is just inspiring. I hope that they continue to receive unconditional support from people all over the world to allow them to continue their campaign into the future. They will certainly have my support for a long long time.

ESPECIALLY china, ooo that country i will never be able to go to that country because of the things i know about it. like hanging LIVE dogs and cats upside down to be chosen by a memeber of the public to be skinned alive!!!!! or whatever else that want it for. why isnt the powerful people of this world putting a stop to it :'(. please if you are someone who can do something about it then please do. its just not right!

hippy_love - I did not see that article, but you do not surprise me because this thing goes on every day as a matter of routine in Chinese Zoos in front of children and their parents as an entertaining spectacle. It makes you wonder what these children will grow up to be if they are being taught at such a young age to be insensitive to the suffering of animals. In China there are no animal welfare laws, no recognised animal rights, and the country is completely devoid of any sort of compassion in its attitude to animals of any species. This is how the barbaric trade in dog and cat meat and fur is allowed to go on. It is perfectly legal there. People there do own dogs and there are genuine dog lovers among the Chinese people, but the government makes them pay increasingly high dog license fees, which many struggle to afford. After a rabies scare recently, the government issued dog owners with poison to kill their pets themselves, and so avoid the government doing it for them. But death by poison for a dog is an agonising death which not many dog lovers could bear to watch, so many of them did not kill their dogs. Then in came the government thugs with batons and proceeded to beat dogs to death in the streets, and in their own gardens. I read one account of an elderly lady whose faithful old dog was being beaten to death in front of her. Her distress was such that she suffered a heart attack and fell to the ground, but they continued beating her dog. She managed with her last bit of strength to drag herself to her dying pet and they died together in the dirt while the thugs moved on to the next victim. Footage I have seen shows them laughing as they do their vile work. It would take on average 3 minutes with 3 men all beating down on a dog before it died. I saw footage of an alsation bitch who was beaten to death in front of her 3 week old pups. I did not see any footage showing that the pups had received similar treatment, but I can't imagine that they were saved. These dogs were all in their own back yard with beds and food dishes. Obviously they were loved pets, but the family were not at home. Imagine what they had to return to! Thousands of family pets were beaten to death inhumanely in this cull. This is China everyone, where neither human nor animal rights matter, only commerce and profit. Whoever agreed that the olympics should have been staged there can't have been a full weight! And I'll bet in the preparations they culled all the stray dogs and cats around Beijing (or sent them to be slaughtered for meat and fur). These are the bits they never publicise of course. It is the China they don't want the West to see. Damn them all to Hell. I'll stop now before I say things I shouldn't!!!

Neutering, I believe very, very strongly in neutering. I have 3 cats and 1 dogs all rescued by either animal societies or myself and I have paid for all of them boys and girls to be done. I have had rescued cats for over 25 years now and some of the cats have been in quite a state and one was pregnant when I got her off the streets after she had been abandoned by her owners. When you end up picking up the lives of these poor animals you end up wishing that people would be more responsible. I think it should be law that all pets are neutered excepted for licensed breeders (who should only be small home breeders who are inspected regularly and bred in the owners home and not in puppy farms or bred in a shed etc). Therefore there would be less animals to be abandoned and if people had to start forking sums of money to acquire a pet it may, just may, make some people think about why they want an animal and all the responsibility it brings. I have had heated rows with some idiots who wants to keep their dog/cat entire and for some reason it seems to me that men are more reluctant to neuter their male dog/cat etc and women seem to say things like I want her to have one litter, why? so more animals can be abandoned. Have they any idea of how hard it is to find a good home for kittens/puppies and how heartbreaking it is. I had to with the pregnant female cat I rescued, luckily she only had 3 and I kept one. Needlessly to say she was neutered as soon as the vet said it was safe to and so was her kitten. My very first kitten was 5 weeks old and I got her on the day she was due to be drowned, yes drowned, not handed in to a rescued or anything. All because the owners didnt want kittens but didnt bother to have the mother cat done and unbelievably they still didnt have her done. Sorry but i now live on benefits due to a serious illness but my animals come first and i go without if I cant afford to pay for both my stuff and the animals. I choose to have them not the otherway around and I have a duty to provide a decent life for them. And yes, my cats and dog will only eat the expensive stuff and I am reduced to supermarket value brands for myself. PS I was interested in the comments about commercial pet food brands and will now research some more natural brands to feed them.

    animals and humans are equals.
you wouldnt kill and eat your mother, because thats wrong in society, so why kill and eat a cow or other animal.

animal testing should be abolished as it is unreliable.

hunting should be stopped - full stop.

fur industries should be closed and the people responsible prosecuted.

    Puppy farming...

Whats the diffrence between breeding dogs and farming puppys?

The main diffrence is breeders supply healthy nourished happy puppys, genrally making sure parents have low hip scores, good temprements etc.

Whereas farms supply genrally malnourished dogs bred in filthy conditions and usualy resulting in health problems in later life, they breed purely for profit. Oh any many without a licence.

The stud dogs and bitches are genrally skinny and have hip problems that are inhereted by there young, and not fed how you would feed your dog mabye a lump of meat chucked in every few days. The bitches are exaushted, and many unsocialised.

isn't it funny how dogs have to go through this and it's 'okay' whereas if there was a human breeding farm it would be wrong, shocking, and and outrage. if it was found out there would be authorities round there that instant and would be delt with serverly. we're animals too!!

and to think all this happens in a 'civalised' modern society today.

I want to bring the treatment of animals in other countrys to attention, i know this isnt our country and there really isnt much we can do about it, but after watching kill it, skin it, wear it, i was appauled. It's probally one of the worse things ive seen in my life. The way the animals were skinned alive, pratically tortured there heads stamped on just to not damage there fur that they wanted to sell, this was in china. This happends all over the world and they get away with it! It's the sick grin on there faces they get me, they act like there doing nothing wrong. There law is diffrent to ours but it's so unfair the whole animals life e.g dogs and foxes is in a cage some of them get so distressed they chew there legs of, this could also be because there so hungry! The owners of there sick farms just say they don't no any diffrent so there not missing out, its infuriating. I think there should be regualuar checks on ALL animal trades, puppy farms, basically anything to do with animals being kept in an enviroment. I think the RSPCA should be allowed to check out these places, if the farms had nothing to hide then why not? I think alot of changes need to happen everywhere, otherwise this is going to carry on, animals are dying and being cruely treated everywhere. Animals need to given a voice. Stop the fur trade, No Fur, No Leather. Then the money loss will stop them skinning the poor animals just for there fur which they have no right to take!

I want to highlight the horrible advertising campaign by LOOT, the advertising network, called "Flog your Dog" with a photo of a bulldog. I saw this ad in the Evening Standard on 14 August and I was horrified that they could be so irresponsible. I have complained to the Advertising Standards Authority
beacuse the ad promotes the sale of pets through the Loot's newspaper publication and online ads. It finishes with the wording. "no animals were hurt during the making of this advert. We take animal welfare very seriously at Loot". I find this ad. offensive and irresponsible, in the way it promotes the sale of a sentient animal as a commodity. I know it is not illegal to sell pets, but trading unwanted animals through classified ads is completely unregulated. It opens the way for puppy farms to make money out of dogs and for those involved in illegal dog fights to obtain animals that are used as bait in these sickening activities.

If you have time, please join me in complaining about these advertisements, which are putting dogs in danger.

I would just like to say how good it is that people like us take the time to do things like this. I bet Kate Moss never visits the RSPCA website to try and better the world for animals.. I guess it just goes to show that some people are purely arrogant towards issues like the ones raised by the RSPCA.
In the last year i have changed my eating habits and no longer eat meat. It was a decision that came about after i realised just how IN-HUMANE the slaughter of these animals is. It is beyond what the governement lead us to believe, and a trade so sick that you could never have guessed the cruelty behind that pack of bacon at the supermarket.

Dont get me wrong, i am not trying to force vegetarianism onto anybody; it is a world of choice and free will.

What i am saying though is that animals need to be seen in a different light; we do not live in the stone ages, where it was acceptable to kill an animal with our bare hands, and cook it over a fire. We live in a world where everything has come along way since those times, and animals just do not need to be viewed as an item anymore.
They are part of the same world as us and should have the same rights as us.

No, to me there is no validation these days for animal testing at all. As a human, with rights, we should be given the right to let them experiment on us. See my answer to the above. We would have nothing to lose and everything to gain. If it goes wrong, we have lost nothing but will have at least provided the scientists with an answer. Try something else. Next please.

Did anyone see that artical in the news paper the other day in china?

For fun they put two male lions and a young 'petrified' ox into an enclosure and watch them both rip and kill this ox to shreads...they literally was taking chunks out of the poor thing as it was screaming for its life....the sickest thing is, is that in the crowd all the people were smiling and small children were aswell...they said it was showing natural behaviour in the 'wild' the ox had nowhere to run and escape and to be watched by a huge crowd of humans cheering and making noise must of been horendous for him....yeh some may say he was just an ox...'just' being used because people tend to have a great gift of ignorance if they cannot understand something completely...it must therefore not have feelings like pain, embarrasment, fear and shear terror...to see the look on the poor things face did not take much working out to know that he definately wasnt enjoying it.

They are aloud to do this...what gives them the right to? what if some other animal started capturing humans and putting them into rings and chaining them up by their noses and keeping them in a glass box to be looked at every now and then...because that animal could not understand our shouts and screams..they assume we are not that important...we do not feel...we do not get depressed...we do not have a brain?

But because they can control us they then have a right to violate us and kill us? but if we killed one of their own kind we also get killed regardless if we was acting out our basic instinct? and we knew not of what we was doing? is that right?

I detest all forms of animal testing. The dilemma I have is that I found out the work done by Cancer Research UK (for whom I volunteer to raise awareness of the disease, saved the lives of my Mum and my Nan, involves animal testing. Is there any real need for animal testing in this day and age? There's a need for clinical testing, of course, but surely there is no need to torture animals with it. Instead of piling billions into weaponry for pointless wars, perhaps the world leaders need to invest in alternative for methods of research that may eventually save lives of millions.

This needs attention: Need to petition the killing of Wild Mustangs...
U.S. agonizes over whether to kill excess mustangs.GERLACH, Nevada: Five mustangs pounded across the high desert recently, their dark manes and tails giving shape to the wind. Pursued by a helicopter, they ran into a corral - unwilling recruits in an emotional debate over whether to thin, through humane means, a captive herd that already numbers 30,000. The champions of wild mustangs have long portrayed them as the victims of ranchers who preferred cattle on the range, middlemen who wanted to make a buck selling them for horsemeat, and misfits who shot them for sport. But the wild horse today is no longer automatically considered deserving of extensive protections. Some environmentalists and scientists have come to see the mustangs, which run wild from Montana to California, as top-of-the-food-chain bullies, invaders whose hooves and teeth disturb the habitats of endangered tortoises and desert birds. Herd sizes, the bureau says, double every four years. And the agency is working with a contraceptive that is largely effective for two years in mares. Alan Shepherd, the official who helps run the contraceptive program, said that it showed promise but had limitations. "The ultimate thing is you can't catch them all," Shepherd said. The horses that rushed into the corral ahead of the helicopter were taken to a holding facility and will eventually join the Adopt-A-Horse program. The bureau said it would be premature to discuss the criteria for culling horses or the means. Longtime observers believe that older, unadoptable horses would be the focus of such a program. And in past mustang-thinning operations at holding facilities, marksmen shot the horses, said Messer of Missouri. After Representative Nick Rahall 2nd, Democrat of West Virginia, the chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, raised questions about the culling proposal, the bureau agreed to make no decision until after completion of a congressional audit of the program, which is due in September.

    HRT.....Premarin...Grrrrrr!
How many people know that Premarin (the main HRT given to women for the menapause) is mostly made up from Horse (mares) urine.
Although this happens in America and Canada...we in England use the product and therefore must have a say in its making. To obtain the urine used in Premarin, mares are impregnated and confined for six months of their eleven month pregnancies. Unable to turn around or lie down comfortably because of the small stalls, short chains and standing in their own waste, with urine collection bags strapped to their bodies. The collection bags chaff and irritate the skin causing puss ozing sores. These poor mares are rarely let out of the stalls, or even see daylight and it has been reported that their water intake is reduced to make the urine as concentrated as possible.

This cycle of pregnancy and confinement continues every year until they are either barren or lame and they then are sold for slaughter. The by-product of this is foals - approximately 70,000 that are either sold on, kept to replace their mothers or sent to feed lots to be fattend then sent to slaughter. Just think, these poor mares have their baby's snatched from them at birth, imagin their crys for their lost little ones. Its just tragic and so very wrong. There are several alternatives making the cruelty completely unnecessary.

However, the demand for Premarin is high because it is cheap. The number of suffering mares – approximately eighty thousand on about seven hundred various farms. Mares will normally live for twenty to thirty years. Most Premarin mares will last about five years. Every year one-quarter of the mares are sent to slaughter and replaced.

I took Premarin for around 5 years before i realised what its main ingrediant was. As a horse owner and lover i was outraged. After doing research i decided that i no longer wanted to be associated with it.
When i asked my G.P why they issued Premarin "Its the cheapest" great, so no problems then, just save money and sod the horses.
I asked about the synthetic HRT available but was told it was too expensive to prescribe free!
So I stopped taking premarin several years ago as i would rather suffer the effects of menopause than willingly be a party to horse abuse! 9 out of 10 friends i have spoken to who take Premarin are not aware of it main ingrediant, pleased to inform they have since ceased taking it!
There is absolutely no reason for this to go on now synthetic products are available.

Please Please educate others about the abuse that goes on to create Premarin. Not just your friends, a lot of doctors are not aware of the use of PMU. If your taking Premarin ask your G.P for an alternative. Until people are aware, this abuse on mares will carry on.

    Visit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjVuseclfxY&NR=1
This video as told by Mary tyler Moore explains more about PMU mares.

While the show was going on supporters were going around and giving out stickers to the children. One depicted a fox doing a 'thumbs up' and then around the edge it said something like Mr Fox says keep hunting! Can you beleive it? This was when the ban on fox hunting had been introduced.

hi. i have, after years of eating meat, quit once and for all. i have always felt ashamed eating meat and after reading many articles on puppy farms, badger hunting, fox hunting, circus animals and plain animal cruelty i feel it is absolutely disgusting how anyone, even myself, have eaten meat and not considered how it got on the plate. i am still at school, unfortunately, but feel anyone can make a difference, whatever age, and i hope if anyone cares as much as we do about these animals, something will hopefully change. i saw an interview with a man who was speaking about animal cruelty and there was a clip of a dog who had just been skinned. i was so shocked to see the image that i almost screamed at the screen. what made it worse was that the truly menacing person who had filmed it had gone close up to the animals bloody face, and captured it blinking. the dog was alive. what has the world become? im young, but i know this is not right and i am determined to do whatever i can. i just dont understand how anyone can even harm an animal, let alone film it and gain profit.

I first became Aware of the cruelty animals face when i was eleven, when i was 12 i became vegeterian and started to voice my opinion about animal testing. i remember telling some one at my school that animal testing was wrong as she replied...'it dont matter they only use sick or old animals any way' i was outraged i couldnt beleive this is what people thought, i told my mum about animal testing too and she said she thought it had stopped! the public need to be more aware of whats going on around them! the RSPCA are doing a brilliant job.

In response to comments about our puppy trafficking campaign, if you have had a bad experience of buying a puppy please contact Consumer Direct on 0845 04 05 06 or visit www.consumerdirect.gov.uk. They can provide advice on your rights as a consumer but also refer the complaint to the local Trading Standards office for further investigation.

    Thanks.

These people must be stopped. We must spread the word and if no-one buys their puppies they will stop breeding because there will be no demand. I am sick of hearing about all these people being sold sick puppies. It is heartbreaking when you end up caring for a puppy that you know may die.It affects the whole family. I have had this happen to me from a breeder who seemed caring and experienced. We visited her home saw the mother and siblings and when my puppy was diagnosed with a serious heart murmur and told he may not live that long she told me to take him back and she would sell him to someone else. How could i do that. When he died at 6 months and approached her again I was told, what did she want me to do. She is not God and didnt know this would happen.No-one wants to know and in the meantime she will continue to make money selling these puppies which cost £800.These people are heartless cruel and are no better than the puppy farmers. They must ALL be STOPPED!!!!

HELLO you all![ITS OK ME DOG {Sheeba}HAS GOT ME 2 WRITE THIS, AS IT IS "give animals a voice" site so she's got me 2 raise this issue which should be close to all our hearts/of interest to us all.as i was wondering why dog/cat food contents are soo secret? and also why the HIGH count of liver failure/cancers/lumps in cats n dogs & is there a connection?,as have you herd of this lady Ann N. Martin?,as i was reading somewhere about this woman after losing her dog went on a crusade to find out what's causing this problem in pets/pet food but kept hitting brick walls when come to the big wigs/£$££$$$ men???
so she wrote a book about her finds ,but that was in the states/USA..[see sample below]
"Commercial Dog Food is Killing Your Dog Because"My own vet said commercial dog food killed my dog, because preservatives it contains caused his kidneys to fail.
In fact, through my own research I discovered dog food contains at least 6 deadly chemicals that have been banned from human foods because they cause:Kidney cancer/Bladder cancer/Skin cancer/Stomach cancer/Spleen cancer/Leukaemia/Liver dysfunction/Major organ failure/Immune system collapse/Severe allergic reactions/Blindness/Chronic Diarrhoea/Hair Loss and Behaviour problems, including increased aggressiveness, very dangerous if your dog is around children!
And if you think, like I did, that buying foods labelled as chemical and preservative free makes them safe, think again..it's just more lies!'Chemical and Preservative Free' Labelling a Lie. Experts Expose Truth..Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and author, Henry Pasternak, rips back the veil of lies about dog food labelling..
"Many pet foods advertised as "preservative-free" do, in fact, contain preservatives.manufacturers don't have to list preservatives that they themselves did not add. Many preservatives make their way into pet food at rendering plants before the meat is even sent to the manufacturer. An analysis of several pet foods labelled "chemical free" or "all natural ingredients" found synthetic antioxidants in all samples."Although you won't see it on the label, since it is often added at the rendering plant and not by the manufacturer,Best-selling pet care author, Ann N. Martin, reveals why foods labelled as 'chemical and preservative free' are actually chock-full of deadly poisons.."Before these animal parts and by-product used for pet food are shipped from the slaughterhouse to the rendering plant, the by-product is "denatured."..This means that crude carbolic acid, cresylic disinfectant,or citronella,is sprayed on the product."link http://killerdogfoods.com ,or just google[Ann N.Martin]and you will see that there's something going on here? and are were being kept in the dark?,and what about over here[UK]as we ARE also still getting the same PROBLEMS here too!!so i thought id put it to YOU out there on this site and see if anyone else is curious/interested?as i,as it might just be 1 of ours/yours next!

I want to see an end to Bull Fighting, it is a cruel and barbaric so called tradition. What many people dont know is the bull is abused before it even enters the ring. Often its eyes are smeared with petrolium jelly, it is hit around the head and back area with sand bags causing internal bleeding and lots of other callous acts, all to disorientate and weaken the bull before he makes it into the ring. In a survey carried out in spain 75% said they had little or no interest in bull fighting. People can sign petitions to try and stop this. Please help by signing one. Just type into a search engine "stop bull fighting". Animals cant speak, we have to be their voice.

Circuses....i saw a video on YouTube regarding the training of elephants at the Carson & Barnes circus. I was absolutely mortified at the abuse these beautiful intelligent creatures suffer. I posted it on my space account to educate people as to the suffering etc. I have had so many responses from people saying they didnt realies this sort of thing happened. All animals in circuses must stop, not just exotic ones, they all suffer miserable lives at the hands of calous trainers. There is little wonder that the news has reported elephants going on the rampage, only to end up getting shot dead! I dont think these elephants wanted to intentionally hurt innocent people, they were just fed up with the abuse and wanted to be free. I am pleased to report that the ASPCA have got involved and at present there is a court case going on. Copy this link to catch up on the ASPCA website to read about the forthcoming trial. http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=press_052108_2

Puppie farms will not stop until the public are more aware of the animals welfare. We must spread the word to all our friends to stop buying from pet shops or via the net. Post videos on your sites etc. to educate people. If people want a dog then there will probably be just the right one for them at any rescue centers. I bought a yorkshire terrier from someone whom i travelled 300 miles to get to. They showed me the pedigree papers and said it was all vaccinated etc. I couldnt see the mother as they told me "she is at the vets". This adorable little bundle just had to come home with me. Several months on and we soon learnt he was not a pedigree at all, he is a cross mix with some other terrier in him. He also never had any jabs. We did try to contact the seller but the number came back as not listed. I was duped! and paid £375 for him. I wouldnt be without him now, but it shows that you cant accept pedigree papers as proof. You must see the puppies with mum and dad if possible. Its easy to let your heart rule your head in these situations. I have since bought another from a local source, i saw mum & dad and she is beautiful. The media need to get more involved and expose these people. Its not just the puppies that suffer. The mother will probably be re-impregnated after each litter. Living in cramped fithy conditions, these poor dogs have no life and it makes me sooooo cross!

Whay cant the RSPCA be allowed to inspect these Puppy Farms, as they do meat farms? If these dealers thought they would have to allow the puppies to be examined, maybe they would think twice about this awful trade. A few prosecutions and media coverage is needed.
Years ago I bought a little Jack Russel from a now defunct puppy farm (I didn't realise that what it was at the time) I have never forgotten all those pedigree puppies living together in large pens. It was very sad. Luckily my puppy was fine. Maybe I was just a lucky one. Since then I have always been to the RSPCA centres. My two dogs now, are aged 18 and 16 respectively. The 18yr old is rather frail, but with vetinary care, he is still enjoying his last years.

I brought a puppy advertised on the internet as a black pommeraian for £350. I got it from Dobe Farm in Essex. The puppy was sick, and now grown is not a pommerain at all. When I contacted Dobe Farm she asked what I wanted her to do and suggested that I could return the puppy and get a refund. How could I retun the puppy after 8mts??? Even though he is a bigger dog than I wanted, I have kept him as he is worth more than money to me. I contacted trading standards and other places but no one seems to be able to stop this woman selling these sick puppies.

I AM AT PRESENT FEEDING A FOX CUB WHOSE PARENTS WERE SHOT BY A LOCAL MAN. I AM APPALLED TO LEARN THAT IT IS ALWAYS OPEN SEASON ON FOXES, REGARDLESS OF THE FACT THAT CUBS ARE LEFT TO STARVE. AND AM ALSO SHOCKED TO LEARN THAT FOXES CAN STILL BE SNARED. I HAVE NOT TOUCHED THE CUB AND HAVE NO INTENTION OF DOING. JUST WATCHING HIM COME TO A REGULAR FEEDING PLACE EACH EVENING IS A DELIGHT, AND HIS ANTICS CHASING BEETLES AND RABBITS ON THE LAWN KEEP ME ENTHRALLED. I HAVE LEARNED SO MUCH ABOUT FOXES IN THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS, AND INTEND TO CHAMPION THEIR CAUSE WHENEVER POSSIBLE.

We are so very pleased that at last you doing something to highlight this evil trade.

However we would like to see more mention of puppy farms here in the UK , Wales is rife with puppy farms and dealers .

What are you actually going to do about them ? can we expect prosecutions ? Have you taken any action against the dealers in the film shown on tv this morning ?

If we pass on dealers names and addresses to you what will you do about it ? more info please .

http://www.dogs-r-us.org/ raising public awareness to the plight of puppy farm dogs. Please join and help if you can.
