My Miniture Jack russell and My Pug were attacked by an Alsatian yesterday, luckily neither of them were injured, but the owner of the dog was not responsible enough.
The dog pulled and she just let go of the lead. It should be the owners of the dog that are liable and should not be able to own dogs at all.

If owners are aware that their dogs are prone to snapping, then it should be a legal requirement to fix letter box guards to their front door (vets/animal welfare/protection officers should also have the power to order this.) The animal is acting naturally to snap at (what they believe to be) an intrusion into their territory, punishing the animal is pointless and debatable breaches the five freedoms by intervening with the the animals natural behaviour. A letter box guard, seems to me to be a simple, safe, cheap and stress-free solution to the stated issue.

i have 2 staff's and they are the most friendly dogs iv ever owned but i do agree that all dogs should be on a lead. one of my dogs refuse to go for walks (she`s scared of being attacked for being a vicious dog) jokes! she just lazy and i did have 4, not by choice but because i was stupid enough to breed my bitch i had 2 of them come back to me but ive recently re-homed 2 bitches as they started fighting their mother. i think its down to the owners to be fair. my dogs have been brought up around my children and they are very protective of them, they are good dogs if they have good owners

I'm sick of people referring to dogs as 'dangerous' I hate that they put them down... we don't put don't a human that repeatedly murders, yet its fine to do it to an animal. perhaps they should monitor WHO has dogs, as the amount of vile people I see with Staffs, that are clearly not being looked after well, and being used almost as a weapon is just outrageous.

Why keep blaming the dogs when it is the owners fault as they are the ones who train or not train as the case maybe and who should be made to pay compensation to the person who was bitten and be given the choice of either having the dog removed from their custody immediately or undergoing dog training lessons.

There is already legislation in place for this - the dangerous dogs act. Any reason why we need more legislation? Surely the problem is that the police are failing to uphold the law. I have contacted local police 5 times about dangerous dogs chasing me while cycling (always from the same house) and everytime I get fobbed off with excuses.
