Anne the Elephant will have her day in court!
April 2011
The Roberts’ facing charges of alleged mistreatment. Pressure mounts on the government to implement a ban!
Updated 14th November 2011
Do you remember Anne? The elderly, arthritic elephant, who was finally retired from ‘Bobby Roberts Super Circus’ in April this year after shocking footage was released of Anne allegedly being beaten.
We are delighted that the Crown Prosecution Service have agreed to take on the prosecution of Bobby and Moira Roberts in relation to the alleged mistreatment of Anne. The Roberts’, who are jointly charged with 'Causing the elephant to suffer unnecessarily' are set to appear in court on 16th November 2011.
Thankfully, Anne has now been rescued, but astonishingly, despite overwhelming support from both the public and MPs, the government have failed to implement a ban on wild animals in circuses. Instead, wasting valuable resources developing a licensing system that no one wants, rather than focusing on finding solutions to implement a ban.
Let’s keep the pressure on! Anne’s life of forced performance is over, but for the tigers, camels and lions that remain in today’s last remaining travelling circuses it continues.
Let’s finally make this long overdue ban a reality! E-mail your MP and ask them to urge Lord Taylor of Holbeach CBE, the Minister responsible at Defra for this matter, to act on this urgent issue!
