Caring for animals in Africa
Watch the series 'The World Wild Vet' featuring RSPCA International’s work with animals in need in the poorest communities in Malawi on 14th March on Sky 1
Millions of pigs across Europe are suffering in farming systems where they are often confined to tiny living spaces for extended periods, completely restricting movement and natural behaviour. Many are subjected to overcrowding, lack of bedding material, tail docking and castration without anaesthetic.
The RSPCA and many other NGOs are speaking at a ‘Pig Business’ event at the House of Commons to call on the government to take action to improve pig welfare.
The RSPCA is calling for:
- better enforcement of the current legislation
- a review of the EU law that protects pig welfare
- clearer labelling about how the pig was reared so that consumers can make informed choices about what they buy
Pig Business is a film by the dedicated campaigner Tracy Worcester, that asks ‘Do you know the true cost of cheap meat?’ You may have seen the film on More 4 last June, and you can view it again on the Pig Business website.
