Did you know that of the 160 million pigs reared for meat across Europe, many are reared in conditions that the RSPCA thinks are unacceptable?
That’s why we’ve launched our Think Pig campaign, to raise awareness about the welfare issues facing pigs and to help consumers know what labels to look for when out shopping for pork, bacon, ham and sausages.
We recently commissioned a survey that revealed that 81 percent of people who had bought pork, bacon, ham or sausages within the last six months believe it is important that a pig is treated well when being reared for meat.
However, while people do care about pig welfare, many people are unsure about what to buy in the supermarket.
We’ve developed a Think Pig checklist to help shoppers choose higher welfare options, and we’re asking consumers to pledge to ‘Think Pig’ when shopping for pork, bacon, sausages and ham and follow the checklist.
